Compliance Projects

Complying with Environmental Legislation: Regulatory Compliance Reporting.

NGH Environmental can assist in managing your project’s environmental compliance requirements including:

  • Conditions of Approval/Consent
  • Legislative requirements
  • Licences, permits and approvals
  • Standards and guidelines

We have provided regulatory compliance advice and assistance on major projects. Our expertise extends to the provision of Independent Environmental Representatives, Environmental Auditors and on-site environmental officers.

Environmental reporting generally focuses on the purely environmental aspects and impacts of an organisation, such as air emissions, energy, water, waste and so forth to ensure it conforms with environmental legislation. Sustainability reporting is generally much broader, looking at social and economic factors too, and analysing whether the organisation is environmentally, socially and economically sustainable (the ‘triple bottom line’).

NGH Environmental has prepared environmental reports and sustainability reports for regulatory compliance for a wide variety of clients. Some of the types of reports NGH Environmental has prepared include:

  • Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) compliant sustainability reporting
  • Annual return reporting for Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) licences
  • Greenhouse gas and energy reporting including OSCAR reporting and reporting under the Government Energy Management Policy and the Greenhouse Challenge Plus program
  • NPI reporting
  • Environmental reporting required under the NSW Government’s Waste Reduction and Purchasing Policy (WRAPP)
  • Compliance reporting for government contract requirements

Environmental baseline and performance reports for internal and external use by different organisations.

Environmental Auditing

It is critical to plan and undertake environmental compliance auditing correctly to avoid additional costs and delays, and even prosecution for failing to comply with environmental legislation. Internal environmental auditing or an independent review of systems, in the early stages of planning can be helpful.

NGH Environmental offers services to assist organisations to meet regulatory compliance specifications and international standards such as ISO 140001:2004 Environmental Management Systems (EMS).

NGH Environmental has RABQSA certified Environmental Auditors.

Independent Environmental Representatives

An environmental representative is a suitably qualified environmental professional chosen by the developer or proponent of a specific project and approved by the NSW Minister for Planning. The environmental representative provides independent scrutiny of a project before, during and after construction to ensure that the developer or proponent complies with environmental legislation and all of the regulatory requirements they have committed to during the planning stage. The environmental representative has the authority to request works be stopped on a project.

NGH Environmental has several Exemplar Global (previously RABQSA) certified Environmental Auditors on staff, as well as other types of qualified auditors, and have provided environmental representatives for energy, water and transport projects across NSW.

Legal Representation and Advice

NGH Environmental can assist in legal proceedings through both the NSW Land and Environment Court and the ACT Administrative Appeals Tribunal, through the provision of expert witness services and statements of evidence. We have provide advice and services in court proceedings to public and private sector clients.
